Myself and the lovely girlfriend had a conversation the other day about, if given the chance, would I be Prime Minister. Now those of you who know me will not be surprised to hear I said, fuck yes! She swiftly asked me not to. I have the ego needed to think I could do the job if given the resources, contacts and a civil service. I seem to be the type of person who takes on responsibility easily when needed and I know others don’t find it as easy for a multitude of reasons, many of them good. And there are times when I really wish I didn’t find it so easy because I have that urge inside me to take responsibility if it occurs in front of me, I can’t fucking stop myself. And that in turn provides a lot of stress and so the spiral begins.

And so personal responsibility comes back into the news this week. Our Prime Minister, Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson, has decided that as of July 19, all measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 are to be relaxed and will be up to the individual. I’ve already been over this in part 1 (which is handily linked above) but I suppose I want to ask a simple question. How can you trust a man who won’t tell anyone how many children he has? Seriously, check out his wikipedia page, it’s laughable. How can you trust a man who won’t tell us where the money came from to refurbish the Downing Street flat? How can you trust a man who knowingly made up quotes from his own Godfather whilst a newspaper journalist? Who also openly said that when filing stories from Brussels, it was like lobbing stones at next door’s greenhouse and delighting in the smash of the glass. He takes no personal responsibility for his position as the leader of our country.
No more fucking lockdowns – let the bodies pile high in their thousands.
Boris Johnson
And so again it has come back round to the part of the show whereby he leaves us all to take our own precautions and when it inevitably goes tits up, he can blame us. Or he’ll blame certain sections of our society that play to his political base. Mr Johnson has gotten to the point where he’s bored of the pandemic and so will not make any more tough decisions. The infection rate is growing, whereby we have been told to expect in the region of 50,000 to 100,000 infections per day. The shining light is that hospitalisations and deaths are not growing at the same rate… but they are still growing. And letting a virus ‘run through’ the population risks more instances of ‘long covid’ and gives the fucking thing a chance to mutate whereby vaccines are no longer effective.
And don’t get me wrong, I want things to go back to normal as quickly as possible, but not at the expense of this fucking virus sticking around for months, years. Please stay safe and please get your vaccine if you can.
PS – The announcement that regulations were to be relaxed was made on the 5th July. But the final sign off is not happening until Monday 12th July. Knowing our Government and Prime Minister, I have a sneaky suspicion there may be a U-turn. We’ll see.
