Politics

I am fucking fed up with politics at the minute. So I’m going to whinge about it some this week. Since 2016 I’ve been waiting and hoping for the day that I don’t need to think about politics too much during my day to day life. I mean I don’t actually need to think about it I suppose, but I’ve come to the realisation that it impacts on so much of our lives, ticking along in the background, that I should probably give more of a shit. And I’ve possibly shifted the balance from not giving much of a shit, to giving too much of a shit, which then ultimately tips me out of balance in general and I get fucking hacked off.

After the Brexit vote (possibly a little bit before the actual vote really) politics seems to have had a little hook in my thoughts as I go about my business. In the back of my mind there’s been this invidious tentacle of thought about what our shit show of a government are getting up to now. This frothing clown car have readily debased our politics and I’d like a little rest from this shit now. I suppose with the ‘resignation’ of Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson I might get a little rest. Maybe… but the shite hasn’t gone. He’s like the stubborn stain at the bottom of the toilet bowl. You throw some toilet duck down, nuke it with bleach, give it a scrub and it’s still fucking there. Fuck it, just rip the toilet out and throw it away. It genuinely feels like the only way we’ll get rid of the turd.

I truly believe that in general we, the people, shouldn’t have to think about politics so much. Really what should happen is we elect an MP, which informs which party gets into power and that party executes its manifesto pledges. And the manifesto should be full of stuff that helps we, the people, with a balancing act of paying for all the stuff. Am I being horribly naïve? I just want an adult in charge. I actually don’t care which party they come from. Someone boring and organised and able to look professional on the world stage and not a bumbling fool known for throwing tantrums when he doesn’t get his way.

I just want an adult in charge.

And at the moment I don’t care from which party. I remember the 2019 Tory Leadership race that ushered the aforementioned lying turd into power. Rory Stewart ran in that race and even though his voting record is shit and he’s still a Tory, I would’ve felt comfortable with him at the helm. Because at least I could be sure that he actually put some thought into this shit and cared. He may have made decisions that I disagreed with but at least it would’ve meant I could forget about politics a bit because there was someone serious in charge and he would have decent reasons based in fact.

To finish, just a little recommendation. If you follow politics or are intrigued, then listen to: The Rest is Politics podcast. It’s hosted by Alastair Campbell and Rory Stewart and I don’t agree with either of them all the time but the debate is interesting and informative. And there’s a little bite there between them sometimes which keeps it a little spicy and entertaining.
