Voting

I know, I know, I wrote about voting recently, but it’s important so I’m writing again in the hope that I can at least get one more person to realise they will need to take ID with them the next time they vote. This is important. I often hear nowadays how people feel hopeless and that they feel like they have no say or no control when it comes to politics. Well voting is your small slice of control. And our current government are legislating to make it harder, make it cost more and for no good reason. Check out my previous post on this via the button below:

But as a democracy, it is important and I feel, necessary, that we are all encouraged to vote. Countries like Australia legislated to mandate that all must vote. I’m not sure about that because as a democracy, surely one of the decisions we have is to not vote, but I want to encourage everyone to vote. And just think, if all of those people who believe that their vote doesn’t matter, actually cared a little and did some research on where they want the country to go, maybe some real change would happen.

You need ID to vote in the upcoming May local elections. This is a small change I suppose but a huge disenfranchisement for those who don’t have photo ID. About two million voting age people. If you don’t have photo ID, you can click on the button below and this will take you through to the website to apply for a Voter ID Certificate. The cut off for this is 5pm on 25 April 2023 if you would like to vote in the May local elections. You can of course do it after that so you can vote in the future.

And if you’re not registered to vote, I would encourage you to do so. Click on the button below to get onto the electoral register. And at the same time, you can register to vote by post, which means you won’t need to go to the polling station.
