Went to the Peak District last week and now I’m going to bore you with my holiday snaps. Not really. Well I am, but they’ll be a bit of an update in there as well and a little plug at the end. I bet you can’t wait.

I saw some pretty scenery. This is a view of the submerged stepping stones at Dovedale, a well known spot. So well known that a friend was able to identify the spot from this photo, even though you can’t see the stones. That hill you see in the background was a bit of a stretch, having to walk up and round it because the stones were out of action. Fell over at least once, got a bit muddy. It was fun and I’d not been on a walk in ages so it was good to stretch the legs.
This was taken on top of a small hill because I had to climb up it and over as the bend was flooded in river water. It was a bit hairy getting down because I ran out of stepping stones. This was a walk which started in the village of Hartington. I stayed at a lovely Airbnb close by which had a hot tub, so after both walks, I spent a lot of time in there chilling out… or boiling like a lobster.

As usual when I’m in a new place, I made some new friends. I found it tough at times to switch off from wanting to know what was going on in the real world. Having to know what the up to date news is in politics is a real annoyance sometimes.
However I met a troll on a bridge who took my phone away from me and ran away. A handsome troll, but still, he stole my property. It was great to get away properly for the first time in a while. And it’s a beautiful part of the UK, I recommend it. O and I managed to sneak a trip in to pop to Sheffield to see a show, Peter Pan That Goes Wrong. Once again I’m going to tell you that I love everything Mischief Theatre produce and I thoroughly recommend catching them on tour and in London.

I’ve been watching a lot of cinema recently and some are big films, and by big I mean films that attract gongs like flies on shit. And I can honestly say I’ve really enjoyed them. The Holdovers is a sweet story of a lad rejected by his family and packed off to boarding school. A touching tale and Paul Giamatti is incredibly acerbic and witty as the school teacher tasked to look after said lad. American Fiction is a tale about a Black American author who writes books but all any publisher wants are ‘authentic’ stories about the Black experience in America. He pens a sarcastic novel, creates a wacky persona to go with said novel and hilarity ensues. Jeffrey Wright is brilliant and special mention to Sterling K. Brown, I could watch both for days. Finally, this week I saw Wicked Little Letters. Another funny, funny film. Poison pen letters are terrorising a small seaside town and Jessie Buckley plays the Irish lady who is accused of sending those letters. She’s great. Special mention to Anjana Vasan who plays the Woman Police Officer, Gladys Moss. She’s understated and steadfast. And to round this out, I’m coming to the realisation (probably a bit late I know) that Olivia Colman is just a step ahead of everyone else. She’s just so fucking superb.
Lastly, I just wanted to remind you all that I really enjoy having guest authors on the blog, so if you want to be involved, please email: catchup@abridgedblog.co.uk
