Where Has All the Hope Gone?

And so we’re back once again with the UK politics. Where has all the fucking hope gone? Our new government are having to contend with a poisoned chalice because the previous Tory government kicked issues down the road. Ooooo the metaphors. Prison overcrowding, striking workers and a massive hole in our country’s finances to name three. There are more, much more. Still enjoying the sewage in your drinking water? But then I knew that. Did you know that? The Labour party did tell us all of this during the election. It’s probably why they’re now in government.

And I get that a new government wants to dump on the old and say that they’ve got a lot to sort out and blame the previous for the problems they’re having now. That’s politics, that’s the game, that’s ok. They can do that and they have. But I listened to Starmer’s speech on Tuesday last week and it was gloomy as fucccckkkk. There just wasn’t enough hope for me. Now I’m not a naturally hopeful person. I’d say I’m a realist in life. I don’t hope for much because I believe I can see what is real and the realistic outcomes of decisions made. But by golly gosh, Starmer was a downer. And again, I know why. He set himself up as being honest with the public and not holding back and making the tough decisions during the election.

And he should make those tough decisions, but you’ve got to get the public to come along with you. You have to say, ‘this is shit’ ANNNNNDDDDD ‘this is how we’re going to fix it’ ANNNNNNNNNDDDDDDD ‘this is how it will be better in the future.’ There was no third bit for me. No hope. And so I just think, well why the fuck would I want the tough stuff now if there’s no happier view of how it will be better in the future?

I think what’s going on is they’re shitting themselves silly like a quivering dog who’s had too much of the rich stuff, about the budget that’s coming in October. They thought they needed to let everyone know whilst in election mode that they wouldn’t raise taxes ‘on working people,’ whatever that means, to get themselves into power. I don’t think that was necessary considering the size of their majority but hindsight is a lovely cooling balm on a dog’s anus. And now they’re stuck because they probably need to raise taxes but they can’t raise the ones that will make a significant impact because of the promises they made. Which means they’re worried that there’s too much of a deficit and not enough money coming in.

My hope is that come the budget, there will be bad news and a bad reaction, but once that’s out of the way, they can really start to give us an idea of where the hope will come from. But I said that before the election. ‘Just get them in, then we’ll see.’ And I’m fed up of waiting now. Give me the hope. Give it to me now.
