Now I promised myself and yourself a few weeks ago that I was going to exercise a bit more and I was annoyed at myself that for whatever reason, I just could not seem to get going. Well with the help of a recommendation from my neighbours who are very exercise orientated, I’ve started going to gym classes in town. I average about one and a half a week, if you see what I mean. I struggle with gyms as places to go because I don’t find them welcoming or supportive. And also I don’t know what I really need to do to get to a point I’m happy with so I need some guidance. Well this place I’m going to is supportive, they do classes that last an hour where you’re working hard for around thirty five minutes and I’ve gotten some help and guidance. All good.

Fuck me I’m sore. After my first session, I couldn’t walk properly for five days. I’ve been to a few classes since then and my recovery time has gotten increasingly better, it’s now down to one or two days depending on what I’ve been up to. But I am sore now a lot of the time due to when I’m doing the classes. It has been fun though. The people are lovely and there’s some of the classes where you exercise as a team and try and beat the other team. Now that’s all well and good but I couldn’t care less who wins or loses. I’m just trying to keep up and not die all at the same time.
I do struggle with exercise and the point of it. I know what the point of it is, but in my head I struggle to connect the dots so that I can convince my arse to get up off the couch and go. I’ve always struggled really because intellectually I understand the benefits, but I tussle with actually doing it for long and sustained periods of time. I’ve found that my knees (which I do worry about) are holding up well and part of that is because the trainers sometimes give me different exercises to do to protect my knees a bit. My meniscus is the part that I can feel the most, the bit that I nearly tore in two. It’s a weird feeling when you can feel a line of pain and you know it’s because you’ve torn it before.
All in all, I am enjoying it and I will continue to go back, whilst trying to manage the pain in my knees. I suppose that’s what ice packs were made for. After I get into some rhythm with the classes, it means I can start putting in more stretching and exercise in around them to build myself up a bit more. And then it’s onto my diet and my sleep patterns. Good luck me.
