January 2026 – What a Month

Well done for getting through the first month of this year. I feel like we all need a big pat on the back, a hearty handshake, a frothy milkshake and / or a massive bag of mini eggs. My obsession continues. We, as human beings, are now connected like never before. If someone sneezes in New Zealand we can hear about it 10 seconds later, if that’s your bag. You know, if you like sneezes in foreign climes. I can get swallowed by the news sometimes and I don’t quite know how to talk about it and how I feel about it. There’s some seriously bad shit going on at the moment and I cannot process it all. It’s just a big news whale coming along to gobble me whole.

Pick your poison. Pick your scandal. Pick your international conflict that never needed to kick off, if it wasn’t for a sociopathic cankled wotsit. How do we even begin to properly think about what happened in January. I’d say it seems to have calmed down a little but then more files were released and once again we’re plunged into this never ending cycle of whatthefuckery. I feel that because we can know about everything, everywhere, all at once, we can be consumed by it all. I need to step out and it’s hard to do that when everything comes thick and fast.

Those first two paragraph endings could be read in quite a rude way. Is it just me? Maybe it’s on the brain as well. Lots of weird things knocking around in here. You see lots to think about. Mini eggs, sexy time, global politics. I wonder if the way in which those were ranked is an indicator on my priorities and mindset. Maybe if I can get rid of the politics I’d be able to concentrate on some more good stuff. And that’s the thing I suppose I have wished for a long time. A world in which I can go along without politics being a thing I constantly have to think about. I was hoping with the new Labour government that might be the case, but it hasn’t happened. They’re just not good enough. And then I look at all the other parties and shiver.

Just as a reminder which I do irregularly.
No. Is a complete sentence. Try it when appropriate. It’s good for you.

Seriously though, if you’re feeling shit at the start of the year, I think that’s valid. I think you’re allowed to look at what’s going on and not feel good about it. It upsets me thinking about it so much sometimes. It is hard and you’re right to think it’s hard and adjust for that. Right now, have the lay in, the ice cream, the big fat burger. Go to the cinema and laugh, play some video games and zone out. Go stroke that flamingo. Give your nearest and dearest a squeeze. Onward, forward.
