Covid-19 Is a Virus Not an Ideology

When I broke my collarbone, it was a clear medical emergency. I went and got an x-ray, had a consultant tell me I’d broken my bone, given a sling and told to go home and rest. Now granted I did that macho bullshit thing of waiting a few days before seeking treatment (as I’ve mentioned in the past), but once I made the journey to the medical professionals, I took their learned advice and did what they told me to do. Eight weeks later, I was back playing sport and within twelve weeks had full use of my arm again. I didn’t think to myself, maybe I need to see what some loon on Facebook thinks before I follow the advice given to me by the lovely NHS.

I’m going to say this right now: Covid-19 is a virus not an ideology. It is an entity that doesn’t care what characteristic you are or self-identify as. If you get it, you will probably get ill or make someone else ill. And you may not be that ill with it, but the person you inadvertently give it to may unfortunately die. It doesn’t care if you’re right or left. Red or blue or green with purple spots. And yet there are many who are treating it like some sort of political conundrum. Equal weight is given to fact based science and the idiots who think lizards inhabit our Royal Family and ol’ Billy Gates is microchipping everyone with the vaccine. Facts are stacked up on one side, corroborated by other facts and peer review and on the other side, Facebook posts that take a pebble out of context and wildly speculate to the point where apparently the new vaccines are changing our DNA so we’re not humans anymore and that means, scientifically, we can be sold as cattle because we’re not humans… It took me thirty seconds to come up with that bullshit sentence. It’s that easy.

If you’re reading this and you’re peddling misinformation, fucking pack it in. I know deep down you’re scared. A lot of us are. But find a way to supress the urge to share the absolute shite you see on social media and shite you overhear without corroboration. And also stop following the lead of those in the media who grandstand about liberty and freedoms being curtailed. It’s twaddle from the mouths of those who only say shocking and contrary things because it makes them money. They don’t care about you and the safety of your family. Most of them are privileged enough to not have to worry about a virus.

This will be the last from me on Covid this year. So again I just want to say, please go and get the vaccine or your booster when called forward. And wear your mask when asked to. It’s annoying but it can help stop the spread of this shit and if I’m wrong and it doesn’t help, then wearing a little bit of cloth for a while is not a big imposition on your daily life. O and if you’re feeling a little ill, take a lateral flow test before going out into the wider world, just to make sure. Stay safe.
