Axe Throwing and a Tree House

Last week we finally got around to celebrating the Lovely Girlfriend’s birthday. It’s been a few months in the making and one activity was nearly scuppered a few days before we went. Considering the last few years and the potential for restrictions on movement and activities, I made the Lovely Girlfriend a book full of vouchers. These vouchers could be used at any time and so the search was on for a treehouse to go and spend some time in. I think I found the perfect one.

The apple lived to hang on a piece of string for another day.

Before getting to the treehouse though, I also booked axe throwing. This was nearly dead on the chopping block as I got a call the week before telling me they weren’t open on a Monday now. I’d organised all of this in May this year so I was a little disappointed no one had told me sooner. However! The next day they rang me back and opened up just for us. We had the whole place to ourselves. It was very good of them. Axe throwing was brilliant. A lot of fun and good for the lowering of stress levels.

It can be quite tricky to get the hang of, but that first ‘thunk’ into the wood is very satisfying. And I’d suggest (if they have this option) of ordering the apples as well. Essentially they hang apples on strings and you throw the axe at them and when hit, the apples explode off the wood. It can be difficult to get the axe to embed in the board, so having the apples means that regardless of the axe embedding, the apple will pop under any force and it feels like you’re doing it.. The Gent at Timberjacks in Kidderminster was really helpful. On to the treehouse.

Nestled at the back of a farm, in deepest darkest Worcestershire is Treetopia. They have two treehouses and we stayed in Eathelin for two nights. There is another treehouse titled Vivianna which sleeps four people and both have private hot tubs. In the picture on the right, it looks as though there’s a tree behind the house. Nope, that tree runs through the middle of the house. The actual house itself was cleverly built around a tree. The uniqueness of the experience is definitely a selling point. It had under floor heating, a spacious shower room, with a deep bath upstairs and a smart tv. Our hosts graciously left us some local food. We spent two nights here, relaxing, enjoying the amenities and not really doing a lot. I think we both needed a de-stress. We popped to Great Malvern, about thirty minutes down the road and went to a lovely Italian restaurant called Peppe’s. Great people, great food, hit the spot.

Overall, I’d say a successful birthday.
