When Does it End? – Part 1

I’m writing this on the day the infamous Sue Gray report is published and all the politicos I follow on Twitter are slavering and poring over all the details and what has been left out. If you read me blog on the regular, you know I have a, ahem, passing interest in politics and I don’t approve of our current government and how they operate. And I could go on and on and on about how disgusted I am by their reported antics, which I am, but I want to try and present some facts about Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson’s conduct during that time, the conduct of those who work in Downing Street and the conduct of his parliamentary party (with a sprinkling of rant.) Every time I type out his real name, I have to google the fucking thing.

So putting aside whether Johnson has lied to everyone including Parliament which would be a resigning issue, the fact of the matter is that there is photographic evidence of him being at the gatherings or parties in Downing Street during multiple lockdowns. You can keep your semantic bollocks on what constitutes a party or what constitutes a gathering. I don’t care. The fact is, he was there. As the Managing Director of my business, I banned gatherings for non-critical purposes for two years. Normally when a colleague has a birthday or a big occasion, there would be cake and sometimes a gathering to celebrate that occasion. All such gatherings and communal food were banned. I did not do this because I don’t like cake (I like it a little too much) or because I’d eaten too much cake during the first lockdown (which I had) and needed to cut down. Nope. It was simply prudent because being in a room, with cake, letting our guards down even a little could mean that many members of my company could potentially catch covid-19 and this would compromise the business. I took this decision based on the information provided to me by… the Prime Minister. Banning such gatherings was a trivial thing to do, nothing like not being able to go to a wedding or a funeral.

So as soon as he stepped into the room where these parties were happening, he should have put a stop to them and ordered that there were no more. He didn’t. There have been a reported fourteen parties. Most of these gatherings had alcohol present, a known relaxer of ‘guards.’ Why were they not nipped in the bud straight away? Why were they allowed to continue? So I didn’t allow my staff to have cake, but those in government were allowed cake. The Prime Minister was fined by the Met Police for his birthday party gathering, where he had cake. The very first Prime Minister to be fined or prosecuted for breaking the law during their time in office. Number one. World leading. There have been 126 fines issued to those who work in Downing Street. The address in the whole of the UK which has the most fines for breaking covid-19 laws is the address that created those covid-19 laws. Number one. World leading.

One more thing to think about. Surely the rules governing social mixing at work should have been stricter in Downing Street? They were literally steering the country during a pandemic and so should have been making sure they did not do anything to jeopardise their health because if they all fell ill at the same time, who would be there to steer the bloody boat?

When does this fuckery end? Not just yet, continued next week in Part 2.
