Freedom of Speech

Freedom of speech seems to be quite a hot topic, going on for like the last forever long. Elon ‘Space Karen’ Musk decided to buy Twitter for an over inflated price to ‘protect’ free speech. He allowed racists and anti-Semites back onto the platform under the cloud of free speech and they immediately did a racism and were banned again. Whoops! Who could have predicted that? As the saying goes, give them some rope… There are a continual stream of articles by right-wing knobheads about how free speech is being curtailed and needs to be protected. About how we should be able to say anything we want, however offensive. And then they get their underwear in a bunch when someone says something they don’t like or calls them backward cavepeople. Errrr it’s called free speech dickheads! You either want it or you don’t. And that means that people can say offensive things about you.

In my opinion, free speech doesn’t exist and I’m ok with it. Why would I defend the right for someone to say whatever they like including offensive things when a lot of what I promote within my blogs is being kind to one another and thinking before judging and saying something stupid or insulting. And we have ‘freedom of speech’ laws which essentially mean that you can say whatever you like, but you’re not free from the consequences of what you say. Which means we don’t have ‘free’ speech. Because I could say something disgusting and then have to ‘pay’ for it.

You see I’m lucky enough to have the means to create this blog for myself so that my ‘speech’ may be a little freer and a little longer than a tweet. And there are definitely things I will never type into this platform because they will simply offend people and they do not help the ongoing conversation on how we can all coexist. Maybe we would be best to understand where the line is, tiptoe up to it when we want to be a little provocative, however don’t cross it and then complain because we’re being punished for being a first rate, top tier, miscreant.

Here’s a little recent example of ‘free speech’ exacting ‘payment.’ About a month ago a well known motor ‘journalist’ and current ‘farmer’ wrote some disgusting things about a ‘princess’ whom everyone seems to love to hate. And despite this hatred of this particular female ‘celebrity’ what he wrote was weirdly sexually charged and repulsive enough that he lost his lucrative contract with one of the biggest players on TV currently and will probably lose other working opportunities. His ill-judged ‘free’ speech cost him a heavy price.

So if you want to stomp around claiming that ‘you can’t say anything any more,’ I would suggest that you’re right. But I would also suggest that you need to to get over yourself, maybe get a bigger vocabulary to articulate yourself better, have a coke and a smile and shut the fuck up.
