Recently our government has decided to once again try and solve the ‘small boats crisis.’ They have proposed quite a few pieces of legislation to try and stem the tide over the years, but none of them seem to have an impact. Mainly because they are either underfunded or wind up being illegal when tested in the courts. And our very smartly dressed Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, stood behind a podium recently with the three word slogan (they fucking love a three word slogan these Tories) ‘STOP THE BOATS.’ But don’t they really mean, ‘STOP THE HUMAN BEINGS?’
That would make it a four word slogan and destroy what I’m sure is some heavily paid for advertising advice that three word slogans work well with the plebs (this is Tories considering all of us plebs, not me calling people plebs), but that’s the truth of it, isn’t it? What they’re saying is stop the desperate human beings. And they use the term boats to desensitise us into not thinking about our fellow humans and getting us to concentrate on the barely seaworthy vessels that make the crossings… with human beings in them. Fuck the Tories. Fuck ’em. They truly disgust me sometimes.
And I would contend that this is a crisis of their own making. If the Tories had not pissed off the French, they might be doing something about the criminal gangs that get paid to facilitate the crossings of desperate human beings on their own. And yet the new legislation says nothing about cracking down on the illegal activity of people smuggling. And the legislation says nothing about creating safe routes into England for genuine asylum seekers. If there were safe routes, they wouldn’t have to get into a dinghy in the first fucking place. And so the government will fling money at the French (£500 million) to try and tackle the gangs and fling money at hotels to house these desperate human beings, yet won’t put money into ensuring these desperate human beings can then integrate into our society and become tax paying citizens.
To finish, the Tories then brief shit rags like the Daily Mail to splash on their front page about the cost of the hotels and the amount of the desperate human beings that are coming here, as if it’s not the government’s responsibility to deal with this crisis and voila! (Bit of French for you there.) They have manufactured something to get everyone angry about, moving the spotlight away from the constant strikes (human beings asking for better pay and conditions), the state of the NHS (human beings needing healing), social care (human beings needing caring for), teaching (human beings moulding new generations of human beings) and the list could go on and on and on. Because in the last thirteen years, these Tories have done fuck all to help the human beings in their charge and have done everything to help themselves and their mates.
Just as a PS – a new friend of mine who I have met whilst acting (shock, horror, I’m in a show!) explained the other night that, for work purposes, she had to go and buy a Daily Mail newspaper. Shudder. Then she quipped that she was so embarrassed she wrapped it in porn to go and pay. Hahahahahahaha.
