American Politics Part Two

Well, the thing happened. I remember speaking to a friend a while back and they said, don’t you think the orange man baby will just get in any way and at the time I replied that there was a chance that Harris could just about do it, get herself over the line. I was hopeful that enough people were going to see the orange man baby for what he was, a self confessed sex offender, a convicted felon, and a hate monger amongst loads of other things that any normal human being would not want to be labelled as. It was not to be.

This blog is about me, me, me but there are times when I think about others. The problem with US politics is that, they sneeze and everyone else in the world catches a cold. A well worn saying I know, but I’m struggling to think of new things to say. It’s just all so obvious. It just seems to me that the Americans have voted for the leopard and are going to spend the next few years bemoaning the fact that the leopard has eaten their face. I saw a little graph that showed that searches for ‘tariffs’ and ‘how to move abroad’ skyrocketed in the twenty four hours after the result was known. I saw an article about a woman who had voted for the orange man baby but then was immediately concerned that he was going to take away her free healthcare. I just feel that they’ve fucked around and now they’re going to find out. And so are we.

On Wednesday when I awoke and saw the deeply disappointing news I stopped listening to all the politics podcasts that I listen to normally. I just didn’t need to be told multiple times that the orange man baby was going to win and here’s our amazing take on why. And I haven’t listened to them since. I feel down about it. Not way down, but just that the tinge has come off and it’s just disappointing. I texted my lovely American friend and he responded that we’d be holding our breathe for the next four years. He’s right. We will. I have a sneaking suspicion that everything will just become harder because of who resides in the White House and we can’t do anything about it.

And that’s why I’m choosing to focus on other stuff. I can’t do anything about it. I couldn’t vote and I can’t make an impression on how they vote, nor really would I want to. I’m going to focus on my thing and when shit comes my way, I’ll be in a better place to deal with it when it does. Here’s hoping.
