An Ending

Don’t worry faithful reader, the blog is not ending. I know, I know, no post last week and I’ve missed a week in the not too distant past. Don’t worry, I’ve just been a little busy and like I’ve said, nothing has taken my fancy to write or wang on about and therefore I don’t bother writing my regular post. If I’m not vexed by something or I don’t think something needs a little dedication and getting right to it, I don’t just write for the sake of it.

The title of this post is about my therapy. I was in bed thinking last night and today writing on the day that I have a scheduled appointment and I came to the decision that I don’t need regular sessions with my therapist any more. Am I growing as a person, am I graduating from therapy school? I don’t know, but I do know that what I’ve learnt in therapy has been put into use. The advice I conjure for myself, the advice I give others, has changed. It is smeared with therapy goodness and I hope understanding of a wider viewpoint. And I was thinking about what we’ve spoken about lately and the subjects have been stuff that I would talk about with a family member or good friend. The demons that taunted my brain have largely disappeared and when they do pop up now, I have a fucking big mallet called therapy to whack them across the bonce with and send them on their way.

I wrote earlier in the year about how I felt that I’ve taken a small step forward. And I think throughout the year I’ve continued taking a few small steps. And there’s a certain amount of momentum there which is slowly gathering pace. Look I’m not running metaphysical marathons, but I’m on the path forward. It’s been just under three years of regular sessions, trying to move forward and now that I’m firmly underway, I feel it’s time to wander along the path by myself without the training wheels.

I would heartily recommend therapy to anyone who is going through something that is heavy and is weighing you down. It is good to talk. And sometimes talking to someone who isn’t involved, doesn’t have a bias or an immediate viewpoint and who can look at your issues dispassionately is a huge help. And with someone who is trained, who loves working out the kinks in our brain and who can shift the viewpoint just slightly to give a broader sense of understanding. I am really appreciative of the help I’ve been given, granted I’ve paid for that help, but the professionalism and assistance I’ve received, in my humble opinion, has helped me massively.

Onward, forward.
