When We Went To Wales

So the first question you’re going to ask is, who is ‘We?’ And it’s a good question, but I’ll use it as a hook to tease you into the post. See below for more info. We went to Wales for a lovely 3 dayish stay away. And I say Wales, it was about thirty minutes into Wales, barely Wales. In fact we went to England for Sunday lunch, again more on that below. So many hooks, lots to tease about. We went to a little cabin on secluded farm land with a wood heated hot tub and the bathroom had a big copper bath. I love a bath and I had no idea that this bath was in our cabin until we got there. I was very pleased.

This is the outside of the front of the cabin. Just round the corner was a lovely deck with an age old heavy wooden table and chairs and the hot tub. Now the hot tub was electrically powered but to heat it, you had to create fire! Man do fire. Off I went straight away to make flames and heat the thing. It took a few hours but was warm enough for when we got back from dinner. And kept it’s heat until the next day even though the weather wasn’t the best for summer with a little top up of heat over night. The cabin itself had all the home comforts apart from a tv which was great because that meant we weren’t tempted to switch it on.

We had some lovely meals and our hosts made some excellent recommendations. We popped into Presteigne, a Welsh border town, for a lovely Italian and on the Sunday we nipped further back down the road into England for the best Sunday roast I’ve ever had. The beef wellington was exquisite. We even spoke about how we’d need to come back and make the trip just for the lunch. On the Monday night we went north to Knighton, another Welsh border town, to sample the local cuisine in a local pub. All were excellent.

The Monday was meant to be spent cycling along Elan Valley on hired e-bikes but the weather looked shite – raining and heavy wind – so we knocked that on the head and drove to Aberystwyth. I went to uni in Aber and haven’t been back since I graduated. It looked the same to me with a few upgrades. When we got there the sun came out but the wind was up and blustery as is evidenced by the super cute picture taken of Belle in the last post and those below. I didn’t feel too moved about being back. It was nice to be back but I don’t think I’ve missed too much in the meantime.

The gorgeous young lady in these photos is Emily, mentioned in last week’s post. She puts up with me, even when it looks like my hair has become wings for my head. It was proper windy. She is Belle’s keeper (or the other way round sometimes) and we’ve been together since April. When we first met, our first dinner, I think Emily was nervous. I don’t know why, I was my normal goofy self, trying to make silly jokes and talk about books. It’s good to talk about books. In fact we should all read books. Have some books at home kids, you might get laid. I was trying badly to put her at ease. Anyway in the intervening months, we’ve seen a lot of each other and grown loads closer. The big thing I like about Emily is I get space to be me without negative push back. Don’t get me wrong, Emily challenges me to be better and to open up to new things (I pick up dog shit now and a little furry thing comes to stay at my house) but I am allowed to breath without being jumped on. And in return I hope I give Emily space to be herself. Because she’s awesome and fucking gorgeous. I tell her all the time.

Pomeranians are not natural to the Welsh habitat but Belle took well to her local surroundings. Click below for audio.
