Having just spent a lovely weekend away oop north playing Laser Quest, which everyone really enjoyed, going out for some cracking Italian and going to the Pie Hall, yes literally a venue and bar called the Pie Hall (could this be more Northern?) with my awesome friends, Emily and I nipped back oop north, but on the other side of the Pennines to Chester at the end of last week. We stayed at a Hotel and Spa on the edge of Chester and our first day was chilling and enjoying the facilities. I always find that a massage in a spa is sometimes disappointing because they just don’t go for it hard enough. Anyway the spa was good and the menu for our evening meal was a little strange, can’t complain though.
The next day we nipped into North Wales and followed the lovely terrain to Betws-y-coed. I say nipped, it’s a one and a half hour car journey, but the view is exquisite which wasn’t too bad. We went to Zip World. Now I’ve been on Velocity before, which is the zip line where you hurtle down the side of a quarry at 100mph whilst flying like Superman and it was terrifying and fun all at once but this time we visited a different Zip World location. We booked onto the Forrest Coaster which is a downhill coaster through the trees. It gets up to 40mph and feels really fast, I giggled the entire time. And then we climbed into the trees and conquered the Zip Safari. Two hours of zipping through the trees and trying not to fall off the obstacle courses high up. Being scared of heights, I had a couple of moments where I had to hug a tree to calm myself but both Emily and I had lots of fun as is expressed by this lovely photo of us where my hand looks massive. They’re really not that big. It started to rain as we left and I like to think that Wales was weeping for our departure.
Popping back to the hotel we played some cards, I smashed Emily in every round and if she says otherwise that’s a lie… and I think we chose better items off the menu for that evening’s meal. Sadly the next day we had to leave and so into Chester we went. I’ve never really wandered around Chester but it’s a good looking place. Now we parked the car at Chester Market. It’s a centre of town car park, cinema, food market with small shops, that type of thing. It was purpose built to create a hub for people to go whilst in the town centre. We ended up having a late lunch there. It was pretty cool. And I felt really jealous that Northampton did not have this type of venue. A place to go to eat, meet and something to be proud of for our town. Anyway we had a good trip. It’s always lovely to get away for a few days and try and forget about work.
