New Year, New Me

Hahahahahahahaha yeah sure. I mean not really. Fuck that. Who wants to honestly reinvent themselves. That’s a lot of effort. And new year’s resolutions suck balls. And they never stick. I’m going to make this massive change and here I go and look at me, aren’t I brilliant. Fuck off. And sit the fuck down. Also if you’re one of those people who joins a gym in January with the best of intentions and then from February onwards your gym kit gets dusty in the bottom of your cupboard, save yourself a month of pain. Don’t bother. It’s a waste of your time, energy and money. Spend it on gin or chocolate or Pokémon cards or a porn subscription instead. I know. Exercise by masturbating furiously! Job done.

So welcome to 2022. As you may have gathered, I’m not one for new years. I never have been. And I hate the night – New Year’s Eve! Woo let’s party and get smashed and yeah! Fireworks and auld lang syne. Anyone know the words. Anyone? Do you know what, I actually had a decent new year’s eve this year. Or last year… I spent it round some lovely friend’s house eating lovely food, playing games and generally feeling warm and fuzzy. But for someone who doesn’t drink, this specific night isn’t a great one. It does seem like an absolute Get Out of Jail Free card for getting pissed. I slipped out around 2am and drove home, happy in the knowledge I had a good time and my friends could carry on merrily without me.

Seriously though, new years are tough. It’s cold, dark, some around you are making big changes and bleating about it on their social medias. And you may feel like you’re a little stuck and possibly being left behind. Don’t worry though, you’re allowed to hibernate for a bit. Snuggle up under a warm blanket and catch up on some Netflix. Exercise more when the weather is better so you don’t get injured or when there’s less people in the gym because they’ve given up on their resolutions. Start to eat healthy when you don’t need that extra little layer to keep you warm. It’s ok, you’re going to be fine. And if you are one of those people I mentioned above… yep ok that’s valid too. It’s impressive to have goals. It’s even more impressive to get to the point where you hit the wall and you just don’t want to do it any more and you take that next little step and carry on.

Interestingly enough, due to changes made at the end of last year, the new year does see a bit of a new me. I’m going to have to reinvent myself a little bit this year and forge ahead on a new path. And all that bollocks. It’ll be tough and interesting to see what happens. And I’m back into acting again. After a three year hiatus, I will be treading the boards in February and April this year. And for a new theatre company, which will be fun. And I’m hoping to act more as the year moves along. We’ll see if the Directors of the shows I audition for are as amenable to that hope.

It’s going to be a fun year.
